The Fox and Rabbit Inn was initially called Keld House, named after Thomas Keld a surgeon from Scarborough in the 1780s.

Thomas Keld combined the plot of land to the west and east of Thornton Road, along with the Hallfield, which were combined to make a compact ring-fence holding where Thomas built a farmhouse.

In 1788 Keld House was advertised to let, it was suggested that it was in a good location for an Inn.

The Fox and Rabbit Inn began as a beer house but later became fully licensed.

The oldest part of the present building was built in the late 18th century.

In 2004 Charles and Toby Wood acquired the Inn and have since built a strong and deserved reputation for providing first class food with a friendly family atmosphere.
